AMPUH

The Accelerating Viral Load Testing Among PLHIV through SITRUST and High-Quality Laboratories (AMPUH) project strengthened Indonesia’s HIV response by expanding access to viral load (VL) and early infant diagnosis (EID) testing among people living with HIV (PLHIV). Implemented by YKI in collaboration with the National AIDS Programme (NAP) and Yayasan Kasih Suwitno (YKS), the initiative aimed to improve diagnostic efficiency, laboratory quality, and data integration for timely HIV monitoring.

Building upon the success of Yasa Karsa Insani (YKI)’s Sistem Informasi Treking untuk Spesimen Transport (SITRUST) digital platform, AMPUH introduced real-time specimen tracking and integrated it with the national cohort reporting system (ARK). The project provided national and regional training for laboratory staff, couriers, and health workers on VL/EID specimen transport, biosafety, and data management. Laboratory quality was further strengthened through External Quality Assurance (EQA) implementation in 19 VL and 4 EID laboratories and the development of national HIV and STI laboratory QA guidelines with WHO and the Ministry of Health. These interventions collectively enhanced coordination, accountability, and turnaround time across the HIV testing network.

Key Achievements:

  • Expanded SITRUST HIV for national-level specimen transport tracking, connecting 105 districts in 34 provinces.
  • Supported 19 VL and 4 EID laboratories in EQA participation and performance improvement.
  • Developed the National Technical Guideline for QA of HIV and STI laboratory tests.
  • Improved VL coverage among PLHIV and reduced specimen turnaround time to under five days in supported sites.
  • Increased community awareness through digital campaigns promoting routine VL testing and treatment adherence.
