In Indonesia’s journey toward TB elimination, fostering self-reliant community systems is key to sustaining progress. Through support from USAID, Yasa Karsa Insani (YKI) implemented the Mandiri TB (Mobilizing Network for Self-Reliance to Fight Tuberculosis) programme to strengthen local capacity for community engagement and resource mobilization within the framework of the National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis (2020–2024). Implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and Persatuan Karya Dharma Indonesia (PERDHAKI), the initiative empowered civil society organisation and patient organisations in four high-burden cities to mobilize resources and provide support to people with drug-resistant TB (DR-TB).
Mandiri TB promoted multi-stakeholders collaboration through Multi-sectoral Forums (MSFs) that connected government institutions, academia, the private sector, media, and community representatives to advance local TB action. It also equipped patient groups to deliver pre-treatment counselling, monitor treatment adherence, and use the EMPATI mobile application for digital case support. By leveraging the Swakelola Type III mechanism and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnership, the project strengthened local financing for community-led TB initiatives, ensuring sustainability and ownership.
